Unable to connect to the Sage Data Service

If you get the following error is the Tradebox ISSUES Log, the Sage Data Service is unavailable and therefore Tradebox cannot connect to Sage 50 Accounts:

Tradebox was unable to connect to the Sage dataset at this time for the following reason: Unable to connect to the Sage Data Service.

To resolve the “Unable to connect to the Sage Data Service” error, you usually need to restart or configure the Sage services on the server computer where your Sage 50 Accounts data is actually stored. This error occurs when the server’s background service stops running, has a version mismatch, or is blocked by network settings.

The official Sage response can be found in the Sage Knowledgebase in this article, “ERROR: ‘Unable to connect to Sage Data Service on machine’ or ‘Data service unavailable on this machine“

Restart the Sage Data Services (On the Data Server)

If your data is stored on a server or a main PC, you must perform these steps on that host computer:

1. Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialogue box.

2. Type services.msc and click OK.

3. Scroll down and locate the Sage services matching your software version (e.g., Sage 50 Accounts Service v33 and Sage 50 Accounts Control v33).

4. Check the Startup Type column. If it says Disabled, right-click the service, select Properties, change the startup type to Automatic, and click OK.

5. Right-click each Sage service, click Stop, wait a few seconds, right-click again, and select Start.

If in doubt, contact Sage Support.
