When Microsoft Edge warns "Make sure you trust this file before opening it", it's a safety prompt for less common downloads; you must click the three dots next to the file in the download bar and select "Keep", then "Show more" and "Keep anyway" to finish downloading
To Allow the Download (One-Time)
Download the file: Click the download link as usual in Edge.
See the warning: When the "not commonly downloaded" message appears in the download bar, click the three dots (...) next to the file.
Select "Keep": Choose Keep from the menu.
Reveal more options: Click Show more (if it appears) and then Keep anyway to start the download.
Run the file: After it downloads, click the three dots on the file again, select More info, and then Run anyway (for .exe files).
To Trust the Source (Longer Term)
Check the URL: Look for a padlock icon in the address bar; clicking it lets you see permissions for the site.
Add to Trusted Sites (Windows): In Internet Options (search for it in the Start Menu), go to the Security tab and add the site to Trusted Sites.
Adjust SmartScreen (Use with Caution): Go to Edge Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Security and turn off Microsoft Defender SmartScreen (this reduces protection).
Important: Only bypass these warnings for files from sources you absolutely trust, as SmartScreen is there to protect you from malware
