Tradebox cannot connect to Sage after upgrading the Sage 50 Accounts Program

One of the most frequent support issues we are presented with, is Tradebox being unable to connect with Sage 50 Accounts after Sage has been upgraded. This can be a full version upgrade, from V31 to V32, for example, or even from V32.0 to V32.1.

There are 3 basic checks:

1. Does Tradebox need upgrading?

If you have upgraded Sage 50 Accounts and are using an older version of Tradebox, there is a good chance that Tradebox needs upgrading to be compatible with the new version of Sage. 2. Connection to Sage

1. In Tradebox go to the Channels screen. Double click the first sales channel in the list to open it.
2. Go to the Sage 50 tab within the channel. At this point, Tradebox will try to connect to your Sage data. Click on the Connection tab.

Make sure:

•  
  • The correct Sage company is showing in the Company box.
  • The Data Folder matches your Sage Data Directory. 
  • The Version matches the first digits of your Sage Version Number.
  • If all of your sales channels post into the same Sage company, tick the box to Apply these Connection Details to All Sales Channels with an Accounts Link, and then click Connect to Sage.
  • If your channels post into different Sage companies, leave the box unticked, click Connect to Sage, and then repeat the process in each channel individually.

3. Check the Sage Data Objects Compatibility

If you have recently upgraded Sage 50 Accounts and orders are not posting to Sage or new products in Sage are not importing into Tradebox, check out the ISSUES log. You may see an error that looks something like this:

The following error occurred when creating an instance of the SDO Engine: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {43A0ABC0-2A7F-48B8-A410-F6FE91A3C611} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)).

If you do, then you have an SDO problem!!

Tradebox (and all 3rd party apps) connect with Sage 50 Accounts via the SDO - Sage Data Objects.  This is the built-in desktop connector (provided by Sage) that installs with Sage 50 Accounts and allows 3rd party applications, like Tradebox, to read and write data into Sage 50.

Prior to Sage 50 Accounts V30, all versions of Sage 50 Accounts were 32-bit applications.  With the launch of  Sage 50 Accounts V30, all versions of Sage 50 Accounts have been available in 64-bit. 64-bit applications are generally faster and more capable than 32-bit applications because they can handle larger chunks of data and access significantly more memory (up to 16 exabytes versus 4GB).

If you have use Sage 50 Accounts from V30 onwards, chances are that you will have the 64-bit edition installed. This 'may' result in Tradebox becoming disconnected from Sage 50 Accounts because of a compatibility issue with the 64-bit SDO. 

The solution, is to install the compatible 32-bit SDO.

Ensure that you download the 32-Bit edition of the SDO (Sage 50 Accounts SDO x86) that matches your Sage 50 Accounts version (30.1, 31.1, 32.0, 32.1 etc) AND that the version numbers match exactly.

To get started, open Control Panel > Programs and Features on your PC and have a look for your Sage 50 Accounts entry. If you already have the 32-bit edition of the SDO installed, it will be alongside the Sage 50 Accounts entry. The name of the SDO entry will be Sage 50 Accounts SDO x86. The x86 denotes the 32-bit edition.

Do the version numbers match?

If the 32-bit edition is in the list and the version number do NOT match, the SDO will need uninstalling and the matching 32-bit SDO version installing. If the SDO entry is not in the list, then the matching 32-bit SDO version will need installing. The following step-by-step instructions will assist you to do this.

SDO Installation Instructions

1. Open Sage 50 Accounts. Go to Help > About and under Program Details, see if you have the 64-bit edition installed. Take a note of your Sage Version number, e.g. 31.1.462.0. Then close the Sage 50 Accounts program.
2. On your PC, open Control Panel > Programs and Features and find the entry for Sage 50 Accounts
3. Check to see if the SDO Program is also installed (Sage 50 Accounts SDO x86)
4. If it is installed, does the SDO version number exactly match the Sage 50 Accounts version number? If not, uninstall the SDO program.

6. Find your matching 32-bit SDO. These will be listed to 1 decimal place. So if you have Sage 50 Accounts V31.1.462.0 you will need the 32-bit SDO V31.1. If you have upgraded Sage 50 From V32.0 to V32.1 you will need he 32-bit SDO V32.1. Download this file.
7. After the download is complete, browse into the Zip file and double click the x86 Folder. Then run the Windows Installer Package File Type called Sage50Accounts_SDO.
8. Once installed, open Control Panel > Programs and Features and find the entry for Sage 50 Accounts SDO x86. This should have the exact same version number as the Sage 50 Accounts SDO x86.
9. Open Tradebox, go to the channel List and double click on a channel.
10. Go to the SAGE 50 Tab.
11. If this opens on the CONNECTION tab, select your Sage company from the drop down list and then choose Connect.
12. Then save.
